Hospitallers (also known as Chatelaines) serve as a contact point for newcomers to our Kingdom who are interested in the Society. They support and welcome  new people for the SCA. The Kingdom Chatelaine offers support and guidance to local Chatelaines throughout the Kingdom. They also gather reports from the local Chatelaines and report on their progress to the Society Chatelaine so that stories, ideas and knowledge can be shared and celebrated.

Kingdom Hospitaller

On behalf of Their Majesties, Their Highnesses and the populace of the Kingdom of Lochac, I welcome you to the Current Middle Ages!

My name is Ran Njalldottir, and I am the Kingdom Hospitaller. It’s my job to welcome newcomers and help them get started in the SCA.

The Society for Creative Anachronism (SCA) is an international organisation devoted to the research and re-creation of pre-seventeenth century life, encouraging its participants to employ a knowledge of history to enrich their lives and the lives of others through events, demonstrations, and other educational venues.

People in the SCA study and re-create the martial arts that include armored combat, fencing, archery, siege weapons and more. Our artisans research, create and teach music, poetry, cooking, dancing, metalsmithing, needlework, sewing, armouring and so much more. Through the work of dozens, and sometimes hundreds, of volunteers we host events all over the world every weekend.

The “Knowne World” of the SCA is divided into 20 Kingdoms. The Kingdom of Lochac includes Australia, New Zealand and even Antarctica so wherever you are, we’ll help you find your place!

Your first step in getting involved is to find your local group. Next contact the Hospitaller  for your group, or contact me. Your local Hospitaller will help you discover all the opportunities to get involved in your area, assist you with information, and introduce you to people who share your love of history.

Once you’ve done that it can be helpful to  go to an event and see what interests you. A calendar of events happening around the Kingdom can be found on the opening page of this site and often on individual group websites. Don’t worry about not having all the “right” clothes or understanding everything. Just meet people and talk. Ask questions about what you see and things that interest you; we enjoy sharing our knowledge with others. You’ll find some resources to assist you on our Newcomer’s page.

This is your invitation to explore and enjoy history along with us. We would be honoured to have you join us as we travel through time with courtesy, honour and chivalry.

If you need help or have questions, please don’t hesitate to email me.
