Poetry Self Hate
Hating Oneself Sonnet (III)
Stefano d'Urbino (August ASXXXIV)
- I don't know where or when this all will end
- I know only that I shall not want it to
- The rebuke I give does in me offend
- The hurting I cause you beats me black and blue
- 'Tis by this mirror'd pain I know I love
- For when I find you grieving so I too grieve
- But why does loving cause such bitter tears
- And flay my skin and soul and sweetest belief
- In love and loving, life and living fine
- Quiet discourse, sly laughter and happy smile
- Work and exercise, slumber, dance and wine
- Games and sports and sometimes, resting on the while
- Yet as I wish our love blooms bold, my friend
- I don't know where or when this all will end
