Tudor Event - A Celebration in honor of Anne of Cleves,
the forgotten wife
Come along and celebrate Anne of Cleves, Henry VIII’s often forgotten wife. It is said that Hans Holbein the Younger’s portrait of Anne was not accurate, but surely it was her gentle, virtuous, and docile qualities that were displayed on the painting, rather than her outward beauty. We therefore invite you to dance and feast with us in celebration of the forgotten wife, and to celebrate her inner beauty. Dress to impress in a Tudor or German style. Please click on the above link to get more information about this wonderful event.

Greetings to all,

"North of the Border" Fencing Fest V, 8th to 10th August A.S. XLIII (2008)

Rapier Training, Tournament and Melee Weekend. Open to all who have an interest in the Arts of Defence.

Fencing Fest is a total weekend devoted to the Arts of Defence. Spread over just over two days will be training sessions, a tournament, and melee sessions, a relaxed weekend of fencing and feasting. For the first time, the weekend will start with a discussion night on the Friday night before the event starts, included in the standard price. Lunch is served on both days, with a feast of simple foods on the Saturday night. Billets, booking and information can be arranged by contact with the Steward.

This weekend is open to all ladies and gentlemen who have an interest in the Arts of Defence. Current and future combatants, those who wish to watch and those who wish to learn. There should not be a time during the weekend where an enthusiastic lady or gentleman cannot find something interesting to learn or do.

  • Need to brush-up on a weapon form?
  • Need to authorise in another weapon form?
  • Interested in rapier but did not know where to start?

This is your best chance to get all of these things done. More to the point it is the chance to fence, and fence amongst others with the same interest.

Also purchase your own limited edition Fencing Fest V long-sleeved T-shirt for $25 ordered when you book for the event. You can find the design for the t-shirt at: http://henrythefox.spaces.live.com/default.aspx.

For your information, the T-shirts will be long-sleeved and black with white writing on them, and will cost $25. Your shirt should be ordered with your booking for Fencing Fest V, or if you just want one, with me. This should be done by Monday, 7 July 2008. If you do not order one I cannot guarantee that I will have one of your size with me at the event. There will, however, be a very limited supply of these available for sale at the event.

I am also looking for expressions of interest in teaching classes at the event so I can actually start organising a timetable, which will be finalised during the discussion on the Friday night of the event.

If you are interested in teaching a class about some aspect of civilian combat relevant to the Society, please get in contact with me.

Event Type: Melee Tourney and Tavern

Description: It is a four a side Melee tournament that decides who gets to carry the St Florian Banner into war for the following year.

You don't have to pre-arrange the team, just turn up and we'll work something out. If we get too many fighters we'll jack up the numbers to five a side. Heraldry encouraged, it's a good time for a few of the households to trot out the colours and a few of the knights to dust of that top shelf squire.

Master Ianto van Diemen is once again blessing us with the bounty of his brewing prowess and the beer and cider are included in cost until the kegs run dry.

Dinner is tavern fare of hearty stew, breads and sweet desserts concocted by the nimble hands of Lady Lilith and her willing kitchen companions. For the budget minded the tournament is a cheap fun day out in garb and feast has free beer, what more do you need.

For the fighters (especially those without white belts) this may be the one short term opportunity you have at acquiring a fighting award that King Sir Cornelius von Beck does not have - the sacred Buttony Cross.

Please book promptly to look after the cooks sanity.

Open Day

Location: Wesley Street Hall, Lutwyche

Time: Saturday from 1:00pm

Cost: $2

Bookings:

Event Type: Collegia and Trivial Night

Description: The Barony of River Haven invites you to it's Open Day. The Barony is part of the Society For Creative Anacronism (SCA), a world-wide historical re-creation group. Our primary time period of re-creation is from Greek or Roman society up to 1600. Members of the SCA enjoy many activities, from fighting (both sword and fencing), archery, cooking, needlework, sewing (we all make our own costumes), candlemaking and much more! We aim to keep these traditional arts and sciences alive, and members are always willing to pass on their skills to those who wish to learn.

The Open Day is a great chance to meet us, and take part in some of our activities. We will hold some small workshops and discussions, as well as an Archery display (you get to try your hand at Archery!) and the day will finish with a twilight Tourney and sausage sizzle. Tea and Coffee will be available, and cold drinks may be purchased.

Costumes are not required for visitors, but if you wish to wear one, then feel free to do so.

Historical re-enactment is one of the world's fastest growing hobbies, and this is a great way to learn exactly what it involves.

People of all ages are welcome and are catered for. We have lots of children, so please bring yours along.

For your comfort, please bring: Chair or cushions (the ground can be hard); plates (non-breakable please), cups (no glass), hat, sunscreen. NO GLASS CONTAINERS. SHOES MUST BE WORN AT ALL TIMES.

All attendees will be required to sign Indemnities.
