Welcome back Shotley
For the lucky people who don't know me, I am Lord Edmund of Shotley. I've been playing now for about 14 years, however I did take a long break where I would only turn up to Rowany Festival. Since I've come back, it has been good to be accepted with open arms by friends anywhere in Lochac.
One of the things I've noticed since my return is the difference between in personal interactions and culture between the mundane world and the SCA. In the mundane world, it is more common for people to be so wrapped up in their own lives that they are less likely to go out of their way to help a mate. In the SCA, and particularly St Florian de la Riviere, I've noticed that people are not only more aware of the world around, they also concerns themselves with the people around them. For example, if something happened in my life, I'm certain that I would have ten or twenty people there to help prop me up and get me back on my feet. If something goes right in my world, these friends are also there to help celebrate it with me. This is the true meaning of community.
